Introduction

Like the Wolf, with whom the bear shares a number of similarities, the three species of North American Bears

The Black Bear

( Ursus americanus )

The Brown Bear

( Ursus arctors )

The Polar Bear

( Ursus maritimus )

walk out of the tundra or forest and into the human psyche because they symbolize the contradictory nature of wilderness.

These three Grizzly cubs take salmon-fishing lessons from their experienced mother.
